Colourful Mosaic in Knowledge Space

The Regional Library and Knowledge Space in Pécs, Hungary, designed by local architects Török és Balázs Építészeti, centres around a multi-coloured mosaic that covers the building’s dome-shaped atrium. Designed by ceramicist Márta Nagy, the mosaic creates a gradient of colour, moving from green into yellow, orange and then purple.
A circular skylight at the structure’s pinnacle allows daylight into the space, creating vibrant reflections on the glazed ceramic surface. Incorporating eosin – a local dye that is world famous for its fluorescent red characteristics – the interior combines traditional and contemporary characteristics, a theme that was key to the designers’ vision.
