Grow Local

Online scheme Grow Local invites gardeners across Australia to register their backyard vegetable patches to show what they grow and share their produce. Registered patches are displayed on an online map, along with hints and ideas from other gardeners.

Members from the suburb of Waverley in Sydney are organising a local growers’ supper, with dishes to be prepared by chefs from well-respected local restaurant, Three Blue Ducks. Chefs will create meals with just the produce they are given by the growers. Head chef Grant LaBrooy hopes the event will demonstrate that homegrown food is superior to commercially grown produce sold in supermarkets.

Organisers plan to stage similar events for Grow Local followers in other areas.
