IHG To Expand in Russia & CIS

InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has plans to open 100 hotels in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) by 2020.

IHG will expand into regional centres and cities experiencing fast-paced growth, such as Samara, Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk. It will also expand in the existing key cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The announcement comes at the same time as the British and Russian governments attempt a partial rapprochement. It is believed these new openings will create more than 8,000 new jobs for local people.

IHG currently has just 11 hotels in Russia, and five in the CIS. The first new hotel – InterContinental Moscow Tverskaya – is slated to open in November 2011. IHG will also open a branch of the IHG Academy in February 2012 to deliver international-standard hospitality training in Russia.
