Mercedes-Benz Connection, Tokyo

Luxury German automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has opened a new showroom-cum-restaurant – the first of its kind in the world – in Tokyo.

Designed by Japanese practice Kubota Architects & Associates, the space is being referred to by the brand as ‘Connection,’ in reference to its capabilities as both a retail and entertainment-oriented space. Essentially, it’s a lifestyle-focused drive designed to take traditional car sales to another level.

Playing the social card every step of the way, the building’s ground floor houses a café and lounge alongside a conventional showroom, while a dramatic spiral staircase leads to a restaurant and bar appropriately (though rather unimaginatively) named Upstairs.
