Flora’s Hands-Free Recipe App

Handy from Flora

Global margarine brand Flora's Handy app makes following YouTube video recipes a cleaner experience by enabling cooks to play, pause or rewind via gesture control – eradicating grimy tablets and laptops.

By using the app on any webcam-equipped device, the video can be controlled simply by waving a hand in front of the camera. Swiping from left to right will play the video. Swiping from right to left pauses it, while swiping twice in this direction rewinds it by 10 seconds.

To start using the app, viewers copy and paste the URL of the video they want to watch into a box on the Handy by Flora website. The video then plays as normal, but a small box in the left-hand corner displays the webcam's view, while a bar at the top shows how the camera is responding to the user's gestures.

The app is currently only compatible with Google Chrome, but Flora is working on expanding it to other web browsers in the near future.
