The Madison Hotel’s Social Media Butler
Washington hotel The Madison is offering guests the services of a personal social media butler as part of a package to mark US president Barack Obama’s upcoming inauguration.
Victoria Devine of Washington-based social media marketing firm Anchor Media will play the role of social media butler and will be on hand to record the guests’ inauguration experience via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. Guests will be able to control the frequency and content of the status updates and can choose to have their social media pages updated with posts and images.
As well as a dedicated social media butler, the $47,000 Inaugural Town and Country package will include a four-night stay for two in one of the hotel's presidential suites, a private car and driver, a tour of the city, a $5,000 shopping experience at Brooks Brothers and a couple’s massage at Virginia's Landsdowne Resort.
Hotels are updating their services to appeal to the 21st-century consumer as social media and technology impact upon every area of the hospitality and travel industry (see Social Media Travel Revolution and Guest Services Go Mobile for more on this).
The role of the traditional concierge is also being redefined to become relevant to the needs of the tech-savvy hotel guest. Read more about this changing role in The New Concierge.
