Africa - Hotel Chains Move In

According to a report by McKinsey Global Institute released in June this year, Africa now ranks among the fastest-growing economic regions in the world and the flourishing hotel sector certainly reflects this trend with Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa proving the most popular growth areas.

The continent’s GDP rose by an average of nearly five per cent per annum over the last decade and is now roughly equal to the Brazilian and Russian emerging markets. Hilton Worldwide, Marriott International and The Rezidor Hotel Group have all expressed an interest in entering the region.

Meanwhile, Rocco Forte Collection is launching a new five-star 90-room all-suite room hotel, golf and spa resort – the Assoufid Resort – in Marrakech, slated to open in 2013; the Jumeirah Group is developing the Jumeirah Gamsha Bay Resort in Egypt; and Taj Hotels is set to launch the Taj Palace Marrakech later this year following the successful launch of Taj Cape Town last year.
