China's Own Resort Island

InterContinental Hotels Group has announced it will open Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo Complex Haitang Bay in Sanya – China’s resort on Hainan Island, east of Vietnam and south west of Hong Kong – by 2014.

The idyllic retreat of Sanya is said to rival the beauty of Bali, and has attracted a great deal of interest from hotel brands following the Chinese government’s decision to turn the tropical island into an international tourist destination by 2020.

This latest announcement follows Starwood’s opening of the St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort this November, and the Marriott’s opening of the Renaissance Sanya Resort & Spa in March.
