You Are Hungry: Edible Hackney

Bristol University PhD student Mikey Tomkins is researching the possibility of feeding people who live in dense urban environments by foraging and growing food in their locality.
Using the area surrounding Space Studio’s Hackney, East London, location, Tomkins is leading walks through the potential urban growing spaces using his Edible Map as the guide. The map shows where food could potentially be grown in the streets and parks surrounding Space.
Tomkins is exploring whether the 2,150 people who live within 500 metres of the Hackney studios could feed themselves.
The walks take an hour and a half and encourage a dialogue around the potential of including food in architectural and planning considerations.
You Are Hungry: Guided Walks of Edible Hackney take place until September 4 2011.
