YSL: Paris Fashion Week A/W 2011-12

Yves Saint Laurent designer Stefano Pilati showed his autumn/winter 2011-12 collection in Paris yesterday.

For daywear, Pilati explored a sober silhouette of 1960s mini dresses, bourgeois skirt suits and lean cigarette pants.

Drawing on classic motifs like blown-up houndstooth and Prince of Wales check, much of the collection kept to a monochrome palette. However, there were bold highlights of purple and royal blue.

Black lace-up knee-high boots, leather gloves, velvet lapels and fur trims added to the sense of controlled, grown-up chic.

Evening wear was markedly more languorous with looser, 1970s lines seen in a succession of pure white silk looks. The Bianca Jagger tuxedo featured alongside pussy-bow collared maxi dresses and thigh-slit goddess gowns.

Elegance tempered perfectly with sexiness, this collection is sure to quell the rumours of contract termination that seem to dog Pilati every season.
