Electric Car Hire Scheme in Paris

Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoë has announced a new electric car hire scheme this year as a spin-off of the successful Vélib' bicycle rental programme that launched in 2007.

Groupe Bolloré will install 3,000 cars within central Paris and 27 surrounding suburbs by the end of 2011. A thousand docking stations, which will be available 24 hours a day, will also make up part of the scheme.

Drivers can purchase a daily, weekly or monthly subscription to use the cars, which come equipped with GPS systems and a four-hour battery life.
