Our Diversity & Inclusivity Commitment

Inclusion Drives Innovation.

Stylus is committed to the ongoing process of championing diversity, equity and inclusion in all we do – from the environment we create within our team to the content we bring to our members.

At Stylus, we orient our organisation around these values and will continuously review our progress. Stylus commits to creating a space that welcomes, values, and advocates for diverse perspectives.

Stylus defines diversity, equity and inclusion as:

Diversity describes our identities – including but not limited to origin, experience, and cognition. The dynamics of intersecting identities in each individual’s biography shape their personal ideas, views and values.

Equity is the ongoing process of recognising and addressing structural inequalities based on personal identity, to ensure our practices grant fair resource access to facilitate equal outcomes for every individual.

Inclusion is the active and deliberate engagement with diversity and equity to engender a shared space where every individual or group feels like they belong.

April 2024

2023 was a productive year for DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) initiatives at Stylus.

Our internal audit showed some clear improvements and highlighted some other areas that we needed to work on.

As a result, we:

  • set out a clear programme for training, running bimonthly sessions either internally or partnering with external speakers and providers; the programme focused on a range of topics, including the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ and Black history, neurodivergence and microaggressions in the workplace;
  • increased awareness within our Leadership Team by facilitating regular DEI conversations as part of our core business meetings;
  • created internal resources and reference hubs for employees.

Additionally, we have been working on a series of initiatives to increase our community support and elevate awareness of key topics among our members.

Now in its fourth year, our Changemakers programme goes from strength to strength, and we extend a warm welcome to the latest cohort of small businesses that are changing the world for the better.

Our Macro report The Accessibility Imperative: Disability Futures and accompanying events were our most inclusive yet and set the bar for future Stylus reporting.

The next phase of our DEI programme will focus on:

  • our recruitment practices, starting with reviewing our job descriptions to make sure the language is clear and inclusive;
  • our new hires onboarding programme, ensuring it is accessible to all;
  • continuing our training programme, including external DEI training for all employees, internal sessions for information and awareness, and outside thought leadership;
  • reviewing our wider business policies and practices to ensure they are inclusive;
  • evaluating the past three years of our DEI journey, understanding what has changed and identifying new priorities and areas of attention.

July 2022

For the remainder of this year we will focus on:

  • Ensuring our Stylus Leadership team is actively including DEI into larger Stylus strategies and practices
  • Evaluating and revamping our recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Reviewing practices for content and messaging
  • Fostering greater connection and inclusion between our global workforce
  • Completing business-wide training with outside experts
