Boston-based start-up Unleashed has created a price-comparison website that aims to bring more transparency to the ride-hailing industry.
Launched in September 2016, RideGuru allows users to compare fares across the on-demand ride services available in a city and view how much the drivers will earn from a trip.
Users input a start and end point to receive a selection of available fares, along with an 'overview chart' providing details of driver earnings. Once they choose a price that suits both their wallet and conscience, the ride can be booked directly via the accompanying app.
The service also includes a function that lets users pose questions to a panel of 'ride gurus' (experienced riders, seasoned drivers and industry experts) – for example, where drivers wait between journeys, or whether they can bring their dog or eat in the car. "We are trying to bring together two communities, the one of the drivers and the other of the passengers. We have many drivers on board and now we are spreading the word to the riders who are curious about finding out more about the ride-hail services," co-founder Ippei Takahashi told TechCrunch.
RideGuru is available in more than 70 countries and includes ride services Uber, Lyft, Curb, Hailo, Ola, Fasten, Didi Chuxing, Flywheel, Go-Jek, Grab, MyTaxi, RideAustin and InstaRyde.
The concept will particularly appeal to Next-Gen Activists, who support brands that embed transparency into their offering and who are motivated by new ways of streamlining change.
