Ballpoint Ink Paintings

New York-based artist Shane McAdams creates paintings using ink from ballpoint pens. After removing the ink from the pen’s casing, McAdams then heats and dilutes the ink with solvents, allowing it to move across the surface of his canvas more easily.
Using gravitational pull and natural forces such as wind to move the inks around, his paintings often show the abstract separation of colours from dark areas of concentrated ink into colourful sections where distinct hues are visible. Pairing this technique with collaged photographs and found images, the inks often become portals into other worlds.
McAdams’ next show titled The Fair And Open Face Of Heaven opens on January 6 2012 at the Allegra LaViola Gallery, New York.
