Catwalk Influences S/S 2014

Fearless females, art, Africa and rainbows of colour: Spring/Summer 2014 is predominantly about creativity, feminism and freedom of expression, with the likes of tribal detailing, showgirl embellishment and a return to 80s kitsch making for a maximalist statement.

Craft is also important for the season, as handwoven fabrics and a focus on raw texture and undone finishes demonstrate an interest in domesticity and getting back to basics. Other designers chose to represent the same basic concerns through strong depictions of the Earth’s patterns and colours, while poignant slogans with activist messages are used to draw attention to ecological concerns.

From decadent, dark Victoriana to the summer coat and autumnal tones, there is a seasonless feel to S/S 14’s offerings as traditional concepts of summer vs winter are no longer so prescriptive.
