Slipstream Light Installation


Delivering a masterclass in large-scale suspension, London-based multidisciplinary art and design studio United Visual Artists has created a permanent light sculpture for Toronto’s Eaton Centre shopping mall that showcases the cutting edge of digital technology.

The 443 ft-long installation, which hangs in the main atrium of the mall, contains 70 prisms made from stainless steel, acrylic, and LEDs – each suspended at slightly different degrees of rotation.

During the day, the prisms reflect outdoor conditions by filtering the light shining in through the atrium’s plentiful windows, while at night, an automated system radiates artificial colours and light from within the prisms. During that evening period, the prisms change colour consecutively, creating a constantly changing light show for the shoppers below.
