Riccardo Tisci to Design Ballet Costumes

Riccardo Tisci, creative director of French fashion label Givenchy, is to design costumes for the Ballet de l’Opera de Paris’ upcoming production, Bolero. Just under 17 minutes long, the production is one of four short ballets running at the grand Palais Garnier as part of its Spring programme.
A graduate of London’s Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, Tisci is no stranger to designing for the stage, having previously created tour costumes for pop stars Madonna and Rihanna. The designer looks set to bring his signature gothic aesthetic and intricate details to the oldest ballet company in the world, following in the footsteps of designers Christian Lacroix and Valentino, who have created costumes for the Ballet de L’Opera de Paris and the New York City Ballet respectively.
This latest project promises Givenchy fans a glimpse of Tisci’s artistry via the creative medium of dance, and goes some way to explaining his absence from Couture Fashion Week this season.
Bolero premieres on May 2 2013.
