Breast Cancer Social Network

MyBreastCancerTeam (MyBCTeam) is an online network designed to connect breast cancer patients with survivors of the disease to create a supportive, information-sharing community.

Founded by MyHealthTeams – a firm that creates social networks for patients suffering with chronic diseases – MyBCTeam asks users to fill in a personal profile on the site, including the type of breast cancer they are dealing with and the treatments they have undergone. Users can also post their age and location, share pictures and leave comments and ‘likes’ on other users’ profiles.

The trial section of the site helps to match patients with trial treatments around the country. A Q&A section allows users to post questions related to their treatment and get responses from other community members.

Specialised networks that offer support for individuals coping with specific diseases are becoming more common. MyHealthTeams also offers MyAutismTeam – a network for parents of children diagnosed with autism, launched in 2011.
