Beauty in the Wood, Osaka

At a time where many retailers are making extensive use of new technologies, bold design and vibrant colour to entice customers, a vintage antique shop nestled in a residential area of Osaka, Japan, has instead gone for simplicity and natural beauty as its chief visual allure.

Designed by Facet Studio, the clean and minimal space was created using cedar wood, rice paper and linen. Layers of wood have been stacked to form simple, individual display units – showcasing the unique beauty of each antique.

The age-rings of the wood are also visible in places – via the staggered formation of the layered timbers – a deliberate measure to remind consumers of the passing of time.
