ADCB unveils 'friendly' bank concept, UAE

United Arab Emirates bank ADCB has unveiled two new branches in Abu Dhabi and Dubai that aim to present it as a friendly, approachable business grounded in one-to-one banking relationships.

To communicate its intent, the new design – created by London-based branding agency StartJG – includes bespoke lighting, textures and finishes, carefully combined to create a relaxed and friendly ambience. The intuitive layout is also more open plan and easier to navigate than before. The space is split into three main zones: the ‘welcome’ desk, customer consultation area and teller area, allowing visitors to immediately steer their experience towards their personal needs.

  • Welcome Desk: With an integrated Q-matic touchscreen, the welcome desk acts as a key point of self-service navigation. Customers check-in and receive a printed ticket guiding them to either the teller or consultation area.
  • Teller Area: This provides traditional banking services but at a faster pace. An open desk and low glass screens enable a more intimate sense of interaction between bank staff and visitors.  
  • Customer Consultation Area: The largest of the three areas features privacy screens and padded fabric panels to control acoustics to create a more intimate, welcoming ambience. Fixtures are finished with a light oak veneer to deliver a premium visual, while digital display screens at small, one-to-one desks are positioned toward the customer. Separate customer relationship desks designed for lengthier discussions are distinguished with rich leather panelling.

The new format is slated for a larger rollout across the UAE in 2014.
