Made in China: Spin Ceramics US Debut

Spin Ceramics

Shanghai-based tabletop brand Spin Ceramics has made its US debut with a 2,000 sq ft standalone store in SoHo, New York. Aimed at both domestic and international consumers, Spin aims to revive Chinese porcelain design by merging the rich production heritage of Jingdezhen (the birthplace of porcelain) with modern design methods such as digital modelling.

Spin's 300+ products range from affordable everyday cups to high-end, whimsical, limited-edition vases and signature unglazed Zisha-ware tea sets and bowls. Much of the collection is made from local Kaolin clay and porcelain stone, which after a bisque and a high firing at 2,450 degrees is durable, yet glass-like in quality.

Spin's approach echoes a number of emergent Chinese brands branching out to an international market and reinvestigating traditional crafts to put the value back in 'Made in China'. For further insight, see Chinese Design: A Fresh Blend.
