LED Surfer

Designer and electronics expert John Spatcher has designed a bespoke LED-enveloped suit for London-based photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton.

The suit is the star of a short film for digital magazine Nowness featuring French professional snowboarder Will Hughes, filmed in complete darkness on the slopes of Tignes in France.

Sutton was drawn to creating a glowing lone figure surfing through the night, saying: “I've always been excited by unusual ways of lighting things, so it seemed like an exciting idea to make the subject of the film the only light source.”

Check out our profile of Anglo-German designer Moritz Waldemeyer, who applies engineering and LED technology in extraordinary ways to visualise how sportspeople move.
