Prada A/W 13-14: Ready for its Close Up

Italian luxury fashion house Prada has produced a video campaign for its Autumn/Winter 2013-14 collection featuring high-profile models including Catherine McNeil, Freja Beha Erichsen, Christy Turlington and Amanda Murphy.

Shot by Steven Meisel, the film sees the models turn into aspiring actresses, passionately rehearsing lines for auditions, while others are the would-be directors of the scenario, passing judgement on those performing.

Miuccia Prada demonstrates how to truly work the medium of fashion film, combining an engaging story with a heady sense of energy. There is a real sense of competitiveness and desperation to the film, which lasts just one minute and 36 seconds, as each model fights for an unknown coveted role – perhaps reflective of the world of modelling itself. The acting itself is surprisingly good, with American model Cameron Russell proving the film’s central star.
