Golden Fleece: Farmers’ Network

Northumbria University graduate Robert Sloan has designed an open-source design network that connects sheep farmers with designers.

The network, called Golden Fleece, addresses the financial difficulties faced by farmers, who are often underpaid for their wool. It pairs farmers with designers who will pay a fair price and create work using their produce.

Designers interested in the scheme are sent an application pack containing wool samples. If the designer’s sketches are accepted, the farmer will send the raw materials to the designer. Any profits made from the final products are shared between the designers, farmers and Golden Fleece.

Golden Fleece explores self-sufficiency through craft and community in an infinitely connected world.
