Florida's Kite Concierge

International luxury hotel chain Waldorf Astoria's Boca Beach Club in Florida has hired American Randy Lowe – known as Randy the Kiteman – to serve as the property's Kite Concierge.

The resort will now offer a beachfront kite-flying programme for its guests. Lowe will select speciality show kites from New Zealand based on wind conditions, and the age and experience level of the guests.

Despite the perception that kite flying is an outdated pastime, Washington's World Kite Museum claims that 50 million kites are sold each year in the US alone. The hospitality industry embracing this more relaxed form of leisure activity suggests a backlash against all things digital and thrill-seeking – a theme explored in the Balanced Values Macro Trend.
