Mischer Traxler: Collective Works

Austrian design studio Mischer Traxler has released Collective Works, a machine that produces wooden baskets that are then mechanically coloured by marker pens. As the number of people surrounding the machine rises, the intensity of the colour applied to the basket’s surface increases, turning the object into a notional visual representation of people meeting together.
Shown at this year’s Design Miami fair, the piece highlights the necessity of a human workforce to create unique objects, even though in the case of Collective Works, the participation required is passive.
