Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama

Luxury ready-to-wear and luggage label Louis Vuitton has collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama on a range of products slated for release this summer. Kusama worked with Marc Jacobs – the American creative director of the Parisian fashion giant – to create the collection, which will include leather goods, accessories, shoes, watches and jewellery.

The 82-year-old artist is known for her love of polka dots, which she has previously applied to entire rooms, trees and people for exhibitions, installations and sculptures. Jacobs has long been a fan, visiting her studio in Japan in 2006. There are plans for Kusama to exhibit some of her work at Louis Vuitton’s London flagship store on New Bond Street. The brand is also a principal supporter of her exhibition at the Tate Modern in London (February 9 to June 5 2012), further strengthening the collaboration.

The LVMH-owned label is no stranger to collaborating with artists. This latest collection has been likened to its partnership with New York graffiti artist Stephen Sprouse, also spearheaded by Jacobs. He first collaborated with the brand in 2001, and the company reissued his graffiti prints in 2009.

The Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton collection will debut in Louis Vuitton stores worldwide in early July 2012.
