MVRDV's Flowerbed Hotel

Netherlands-based architects practice MVRDV has unveiled the designs for a giant greenhouse on the outskirts of Amsterdam in the town of Aalsmeer.

The project will house a flower-covered hotel featuring 280 rooms, a fitness suite and a business conference centre. Visitors to the complex will be greeted by a reception and lobby space brimming with flowerbeds, while more plants will grow over walls and along walkways.

The unique concept will use sun collectors, windmills and underground thermal stores to provide energy and heating for the building and the Bloomin’ Holland flower theme park next door.
