Turn Table

Finnish environmental organisation Dodo has created a city farming project called Turn Table as part of Helsinki’s 2012 World Design Capital programme.

The project has taken over a disused rotating railway platform and transformed it into a restaurant and farm, where people can eat around a communal long table surrounded by crops, beehives and workshop areas.

The space will host a series of workshops and classes that teach local residents about urban farming.

The burden of supplying food for a fast-growing population is prompting a slew of creative growing initiatives and scientific research. For more information about the edible landscape of the future, see the report Edible: A Taste of Things to Come.
