CC Creams: The New BB Creams?

BB cream or blemish balm, which covers blemishes while actively treating problem skin, was the buzzword in cosmetics for 2011, but it now has a new rival in the form of CC (colour correcting) creams. CC creams promise to do everything that BB creams do while also tackling several other problems, such as oiliness and correcting various skin tones.

CC creams have a mousse-like texture for a radiant, shine-free finish and include an active ingredient that promotes collagen growth, working towards plump, youthful skin. Aimed at a slightly older market than BB creams, CC creams are anticipated to appeal to women in their 30s and 40s thanks to the long-term results the product offers and the broader-spectrum sun protection factors (SPFs), which work to reduce dark spots and pigmentation.

Hong Kong beauty brand Rachel K debuted CC cream to the Chinese market in 2011, with fellow Asian skincare brands iFiona, Missha and Tiannui also releasing CC creams that year. Procter and Gamble-owned cosmetics brand Olay just beat Parisian label Chanel in launching a CC cream, with both brands releasing versions of the product to the US market earlier this month.
