Chanel’s Video History for Iconic Fragrance

Parisian luxury brand Chanel has created a celebratory video for its iconic fragrance Chanel No5, which was created in the 1920s when Coco Chanel was still at the helm of the fashion house.
Entitled For the First Time, the video takes the viewer on a journey from the scent’s inception, through its creation and on to its continued success. Charting the milestones in the fragrance’s history and the celebrities that have lent their names to the perfume, the video features clips from previous advertising campaigns and historic photos.
The video also highlights the brand’s latest ambassador, American actor Brad Pitt. The new direction of using a man to sell its iconic woman’s fragrance is based on Chanel’s belief that scent is about seduction and attraction. Thus the advert sees Pitt seemingly speaking to a woman – only for the subject of his attention to be revealed as Chanel No5 itself. Directed by Atonement director Joe Wright, the commercial is set for release on October 15 2012.
