Yoplait’s Cocktail-Flavoured Yoghurts

Tapping into the growing consumer desire for interesting food flavours and formats, France-based yoghurt company Yoplait has introduced a limited-edition collection of cocktail-inspired yoghurts as part of its new season Spring range. The light piña colada and original cosmopolitan yoghurts will be available in US grocery stores for a limited time.

“Consumers are continually looking for new and different ways to enjoy the refreshing goodness of yoghurt,” says Cameron Archibald, Yoplait’s associate marketing manager. “In response to consumers’ desires, Yoplait took favourite flavours to sip and turned them into yoghurt that can now be enjoyed any time of the day.”

Yoplait has also devised a number of sweet and savoury recipes that feature the yoghurts. Proposed dishes and drinks include Piña Colada Cake Pops, Cosmo-Pomegranate Spring Salad Dressing and Piña Colada and Cosmopolitan Bubble Teas. Bubble tea – a Taiwanese sweet tea containing balls of flavoured tapioca starch – is becoming a popular drink product in the West. German drinks company Zeekei recently launched the world’s first bottled bubble tea.

The range is an interesting example of a family-focused brand widening its product choices to appeal to a new consumer market. Integrating unusual flavours and playing with product format is likely to appeal to the cohort of increasingly adventurous and experimental customers.
