Semi-Automatic Revamped

Reflecting the resurgence of the vending machine (see our report Vend: New Generation Retail Automation), Morgans Hotel Group has re-released Semi-Automatic – a new version of the luxury machine, which first appeared at the group’s Mondrian hotel in South Beach during Art Miami Basel.

Continuing to push the idea of alternative hotel retailing (see our report: Hotel/Retail Hook-Ups), the new version has been curated by London’s Design Museum for the lobby of its St Martins Lane Hotel. Filled with 32 products, gems include Polaroid sunglasses, an Anglepoise lamp, and a tote bag designed by architect John Pawson.

This refreshed London-centric version of Semi-Automatic has been launched to coincide with the London Design Festival (September 17-25 2011), and will be in situ until the end of October.
