Eco-tech High Fashion

Extra

While travel and technology brands such as Voltaic, Infinit, Seiz and Eclipse have been developing solar-panelled backpacks for the past few years, the concept hasn’t been taken on by high-end fashion houses – until now. Ralph Lauren has just released its first solar-powered backpack, as part of its RLX men's activewear range, retailing at just under $800 (£489).

Part of a new line of high-performance bags and crafted in Italy from seamless water-resistant fabric, the bag has built-in solar panels on the front that can charge a mobile phone or iPod in a matter of hours.
