Hermès: Petit H

Reimagining luxury, Hermès’ Petit H product line is temporarily being showcased in the Parisian label’s store on London’s New Bond St.

The Petit H initiative takes remnants from Hermès workshops, and designs and crafts them into a range of limited-edition products. From small accessories and bags made with silk offcuts, to mirror frames created from silk ties and pieces of leather crafted into animal-shaped seating.

The ground floor of the store is devoted to Petit H, and the shop fitting by British designers Studio Toogood is fascinating. The counters and partitions are made from layers of red foam, sandwiched with glossy red resin. The same resin acts as a protective layer for the counter tops.

The use of foam is a brilliant choice for this pop-up and a tantalising, tactile use of material. For more examples of ingenious use of material, see our Materials Focus Rationale: Repurpose.

Petit H is showing at Hermès New Bond Street until December 7 2013.
