Motel One to Open in Edinburgh

Budget German hotel group, Motel One, will open its first UK property in Edinburgh next year. At the former Edinburgh City Council Economic Development building on Market Street, the Motel One chain will open a £25 million 208-bedroom hotel. It will feature 30,000 sq ft of residential space, including self-catering apartments and two restaurants.

Last year, the Motel One chain – which operates under the maxim ‘Great Design for Little Money’ – opened five non-smoking hotels in Hamburg, Munich, Berlin and Dresden.

Motel One currently operates 32 hotels in Germany and also has plans to open two properties in Austria. With the opening of budget chain Yotel in New York imminent, it seems likely that this budget chain will also soon seek to expand into the American market.
