Meal Kits Recreate Restaurant Recipes

While pre-prepared meal-kit subscription services have become a popular cooking solution for time-short consumers, a new delivery service offers a unique selling point, allowing them to cook chef-created dishes from their favourite restaurants at home.

San Francisco-based Forage has partnered with chefs around the city to create ready-to-cook kits containing prepped ingredients for dishes such as corn pierogi (dumplings) from restaurant Alta CA, or pork ramen from Hapa Ramen. Forage's team of in-house chefs craft the more complex components before the boxes are delivered, meaning each recipe is designed to take less than 20 minutes to prepare.

The kits, which cost $15 per serving, are available for delivery across California, with plans to expand the service in the future.

As explored in Fast-Moving Premium Consumption, brands and retailers are developing upgraded food formats that utilise premium ingredients, gourmet production processes and sophisticated brand positioning in order to feed demand from time-short, food-focused consumers.
