Balmain Banks on Mid-Priced Line

After Balmain's announcement in April that creative director Christopher Decarnin was to be replaced by Oliver Rousteing after reportedly suffering from a mental breakdown, the Paris-based fashion house has announced further developments, with the launch of a diffusion line called Pierre Balmain.

Named after the label's founder, the line will be aimed at a younger customer and is rumoured to be at a more accessible price point than the main line, where a distressed, ripped T-shirt sells for more than $1,000.

The diffusion line will produce both men's and womenswear. While designed by a different team, the line will be overseen by Balmain’s in-house design team, led by Rousteing. Pierre Balmain is expected to launch in September for Spring/Summer 2012.
