Nokia's Handheld Market

Nokia Listings by Nokia Beta Labs is a local marketplace on a mobile device where users can discover and transact with other users using a simple mobile interface.

Aimed specifically at emerging markets, the beta service is trialling in India only at present.

The marketplace categories as laid out by Nokia are:

Jobs: As an employer, you can post jobs and review candidates who have applied for the job. As a job seeker you can search for jobs by category, location and salary, and apply.

Buy and Sell: You can search and post items (mobile phones, bikes, etc) that you are looking to buy or sell.  You can contact seller or buyer by calling or by sending an SMS.

Local Services: You can search for service providers like plumbers, architects, lawyers, etc in your locality.  As a local service provider, you can list on the marketplace and be found by potential customers.

The service is designed to work on mid-end phones such as the Series 40; it uses GPRS or SMS if this is not available. And there are no fees for the service aside from the usual cost of an SMS.

The aim is to create a lively and local community of users who will interact ultimate both online and offline. Eliminating the need for a computer, this if successful could have an exciting impact globally - one to watch.
