Marit Ilison: 70 Cotton Smocks

Estonia Academy of the Arts graduate Marit Ilison’s fashion performance piece 70 Cotton Smocks features 70 hand-dyed garments in varying tones of purple, representing a progressive loss of identity.

Dyed in tones ranging from pure white to rich purple, Ilison’s work demonstrates an acute interest in precision that can often only be achieved using non-machine-based techniques – something that is emphasised in Dutch designer Hella Jongerius’s work.

A video of the performance can be viewed via Vimeo.
