Toyota previewed its expansion of the Prius range at the annual Detroit Motor Show by unveiling two cars exploring the future of the sub-brand synonymous with hybrid vehicles.

The family-orientated Prius V and the thrifty Prius C Concept indicate how the brand will fend off rising competition by deploying ever-greener propulsion systems.

Toyota is aiming for the Prius C Concept to become the most value-oriented hybrid in the US markets when it’s released in early 2012, with the highest mileage range of any ‘cordless’ hybrid.
