Richard Chai for Filson


US designer Richard Chai has been signed by rugged American outerwear brand Filson as its new creative director. Chai will present his debut capsule collection for the workwear brand during the runway show of his own label, Richard Chai Love, at New York Fashion Week on February 9 2012.

Heritage brand Filson, now 115 years old, has a no-fuss aesthetic that Chai’s utilitarian style is anticipated to accentuate and complement, with the incorporation of unexpected fabrics and modern design twists.

Rather than overseeing the design of the entire label, Chai will design capsule collections for Filson. The line will feature six jackets and accessories including duffel bags, with distribution focused on department and boutique stores.

Prices are anticipated to be slightly higher than Filson mainline clothing, reflecting the upgrade in materials and design.
