Maison & Objet 2014: Tom Dixon
British designer Tom Dixon will launch his latest home accessories line at Maison & Objet 2014 (September 5-9) with an on-site production and pop-up-shop installation. Entitled The Mud Collection, the range of scent accessories is made from London-sourced materials and aims to bring the scent of London to Paris.
The collection includes scent diffusers made from red brick in architecturally inspired forms that have been soaked in perfume to evoke the smell of London parks and the salty River Thames. A candle in the same fragrance comes in a cast aluminium tin, featuring a lid made with enamel from the same factory that produces London Underground’s iconic signs. This kind of provenance appeals to notions of community and local production – see The Value of ‘Made In’ for further inspiration.
Scent is a growing market ripe for innovation. See the Sensory report from our Packaging Futures Industry Trend for exciting, scent-driven packaging applications. Also look out for Selling Scent – a report examining the new wave of retail strategies being used to sell fragrance, from hyper-sensory store spaces to algorithmic online platforms, publishing next week.
Dixon’s Mud Collection will be available exclusively during Maison & Objet. Watch out for more Stylus coverage of the event, coming soon. In the meantime, see our reports from the show earlier this year.
