MVRDV’s Glass Farm

Dutch architects firm MVRDV has now broken ground on the construction of Glass Farm – a multifunctional building including shops, restaurants, offices and a wellness centre in the village of Schijndel in the Netherlands.

Due for completion In December 2012, Glass Farm’s all-glass exterior will be printed with the façade of a typical local farmstead building, fusing modern and traditional architectural aesthetics. The exterior will be semi-translucent, offering a similar effect to stained glass and allowing passers-by to sneak a peek inside the building. In the evenings, the building will be illuminated from the inside, becoming a monument to the farm.

In an extra effort to evoke a sense of bucolic nostalgia and playfulness, the 16,00 sq m building (1.6 times bigger than the average local farmstead) will also include a table and swing next to the entrance.
