Californian medical company DynoSense Corp. has created an artificially intelligent (AI) smart scale called Adore that offers a complete picture of health and personalised tips to improve wellness.
Alongside weight, the smart scale scans the entire body to measure metrics including fat content, body water, bone density, muscle mass and BMI. An accompanying app lets users set specific goals and analyses personal data via AI algorithms to develop bespoke training or wellness plans. A real-time coaching feature offers guidance throughout the day – for example, sending reminders to drink water or to stand up and stretch.
For example, the scale might help a runner looking to track training progress by measuring their full-body composition fluctuations with high accuracy. The app will then make suggestions to maximise their performance, such as nutritional intake advice or fitness programmes.
Users can also chat to friends and specialists via the app's health community function, which adds an element of motivation to the fitness process.
The company has exceeded its target on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and is due to ship the scale in December 2017 for $138.
Consumers are increasingly expecting devices to learn from their behaviour and anticipate their needs, as explored in Predictive Tech. For more on the innovative healthcare products equipping people with at-home tools for boosting wellness, see CES 2017: DIY Doctor and Wellbeing Warriors.
