Asian Model Makes History on Vogue Italia Cover

Chinese model Fei Fei Sun has made history by becoming the first Asian model to feature solo on the cover of Vogue after posing for its Italian edition, beating both the US and UK versions of the fashion publication.

Shot by American photographer Steven Meisel for the January 2013 issue, the 23-year-old has a preened, elegant look rooted in early 1960s glamour for the cover, signifying a new, refined year for fashion.

Notably, this week also saw high-profile street-style photographer and Style.com contributor Tommy Ton include the rise of Chinese models as one of his street-style highlights of 2012 in an online feature for Style.com. Naming Fei Fei Sun, Sui He and Liu Wen as just some of the Chinese models of the moment, Ton sees the popularity of Asian models as a sign that “the modeling world is waking up to a market that’s growing day by day”.
