CBD-Infused Personal Care: The Next Big Thing in Beauty

Ho Karan

In the wake of the beauty industry’s cannabis boom, French brand Ho Karan is harnessing the healing properties of hemp seed oil to create multifunctional products in new formats.

Ho Karan focuses on cannabidiol’s (CBD) influence on mood for its 10-piece range, which includes personal hygiene and skincare products. For instance, The Essential is an essential oil that claims to relax the mind and body while eliminating muscle tension.

Meanwhile, other products in the collection aim to balance all skin types, ranging from oily to stressed, regardless of gender. The High Oil is a cold-pressed oil that also contains hemp seed extract as its main active. It boasts antioxidants such as omega-3, which reduces inflammation while moisturising and regenerating the skin and hair.

As we explore in Stress-Busting Beauty, smart brands are tapping into the concept of psychodermatology (the link between mental health and skin) to boost mental and emotional wellbeing. Ho Karan is a great example, as each product destresses the mind while tackling an array of skin problems like dryness or acne.

The brand also appeals to modern consumers’ on-the-go lifestyles with multi-use products. Super Nice Trip is a three-in-one shower gel for the face, body and hair. The light texture cleanses the desired area and removes grease and impurities. Also, its sold-out Go Fast Wipes eliminate sweat and grease in a few swipes.

By 2022, the CBD market is anticipated to reach $22bn (Brightfield Group, 2018), and smart companies are experimenting with hemp to discover formulations that resonate with consumers. Product developers should take cues from Ho Karan, since the brand has successfully embedded CBD into an array of products, including deodorant – showing a diverse use of the compound.

The intersection between health and beauty is a key theme we highlight in Beauty’s Health Makeover. To read more about cannabis as a beauty active, see Cannabis Moves into Beauty and The Chillery: A Weed Wellness Platform.
